If you've been paying attention.. I posted about Monika Ashley two weeks ago. She's an amazing songstress from Dallas. While admiring her talent I also took notice of another local talent. Joseph Veazie was featured on a track yet to be released by Monika (I've had her entire project, most songs unreleased for over a year because friend privileges). After hearing Joseph I ran to Google to find more music. In the process I learned he was now in 'The Jealous'. A band comprised of " the cooled ashes of several Dallas musical acts". They're currently working on an Ep and released the first song 'Attention Whore' recently. Definitely keep a watch out for these guys!

Decided to sketch while the ice melted slowly. Kinda like recreating cartoons from my childhood using #TheGf character I created. Suggestions on characters?
A few days ago I decided to upload some things I wanted. Most of them photography supplies, camera accessories, you know.. Things to help the hobby. I've been also looking for books to help me creatively and stumbled across "Make Your Mark: The Creative's Guide To Building A Business With Impact". Figured I should read it seeing that I have a career as an artist, accessories brand, and curator. Long story short, I loaded it to my wish list and a good friend purchased it.
So use Amazon Wishlist. It literally can't hurt. The least that can happen is someone sends you something from the list randomly.

Last year while scouting artist for the Random Art III art show I was introduced to a super cool artist from NYC living in Dallas. JMR's style is a crisp, well presented mash-up of minimalism, abstract, pop, and street. Each piece of work as a noticeable flow/ movement but somehow uses the existing elements and space perfectly. Once in a while you find yourself absolutely wow'd by an individual's gift. Many times the person with the most effortless gift is the underdog. 'Tis the story of Monika Ashley. I met this amazingly talented lady while assisting with the filming of her music video for Pinocchio. We had a chance to joke and poke fun at each other mean spiritedly almost immediately after we shook hands. Moments later....CHILLS. She began to sing, and I was overly impressed by one of the strongest voices I've ever heard. Her talent flows with ease! She just sings and you're swooned. As I closed out my 4th year and entered just my 5th into the actual art world I found myself struggling. The struggle wasn't the work or the creating aspect. It wasn't not being able to buy supplies, or having the time/space. My struggle was/is what do I want to say with my work? What voice will it have? What will someone take away from it. What style of art does my work fall under? Question, question, wrapped in another question, dipped in a sticky honey thick question. As these inquiries swirled between my ears, I was gifted this book in a white elephant gift exchange. ( which happened to take place on my extremely epic birthday/xmas gathering, so much fun was had)
It took me a week to finally crack the book open. Weird but I fell in love with the feel of this book. The physical feel. The covers (front and back) are made of a cool matte paper, but had a semi gloss, velvet texture. It just felt good in my hands. As I read Austin Kleon answered just about all of my art questions. As well as give me affirmation that I am on the right path. Also, that my questions are totally normal for artist and creatives in general. From the period where I mimicked the works of artist I look up to (to learn technique), but also the importance of content control on social networks. The only aspect of the book I didn't enjoy was Austin telling all emerging artist to keep a job. This is only because I quit a decent job to go full time artist two years ago andddddddd I don't want to go back to the day job life! Haha
I recommend this book from anyone that does anything in the art community, or does anything freelance. It's super affordable ($11 bucks of amazon). If you have questions, I'm sure this book will answer more than a few.
